DFW AIRPORT, Texas – Oct. 1, 2020 – An additional $16 million is available now to help airlines that are looking to re-establish international service at Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport.
The DFW Airport Board unanimously approved a special one-year incentive program to support airlines that discontinued service or reduced capacity to DFW Airport during a period covering April 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020 due to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The special incentive – part of the Airport’s Air Service Incentive Program (ASIP) – helps eligible carriers cover landing fees and other operational costs, which, in turn, will help support both the overall recovery efforts and hasten the return of international routes and service to previous growing levels.
“DFW Airport remains committed to expanding air service for our customers and as we pivot toward a COVID-19 recovery plan our priority is to restore long-haul international air service to pre-COVID-19 levels as soon as possible,” said John Ackerman, Executive Vice President for Global Strategy & Development at DFW Airport. “With the COVID-19 air service recovery incentive program, DFW Airport shares the risk with airlines by supporting long-haul international routes. Strong, committed partnerships were important before the pandemic and are vital as we work together to recover.”
Already, an increase in international routes and service is on the horizon. In the coming months and into 2021, 11 long-haul routes from American Airlines to Europe, Asia and Latin America will join current service from Japan Airlines, Korean Air, British Airways and Qatar Airways between their respective home markets and DFW Airport. Additionally, the Airport maintains strong service to Mexico, with 17 destinations operating throughout the country.
Among other action heard and approved by the board:
- Approved a project that will install Ultraviolet C (UV-C) light technology in existing HVAC systems to improve the air quality in Terminals A, B, D and E, as well as in the Rental Car Center.
- Approved action on leases supporting the Airport’s noise monitoring system, including leases for monitors on selected properties throughout the communities adjacent to the Airport.
- The Board heard a presentation on re-conception of certain concessionaires and the direction the Airport is looking to move toward for services and concessions. Re-concepting is when a tenant changes brands and usually remodels the location.
- The Board also heard a report on the Airport’s Business Diversity Programs.
