Customers can now see real-time information on how long it will take to get through a security checkpoint. The technology is available in Terminals C and D and will be rolled out to remaining terminals in the coming months.
The information is displayed over or near the TSA security checkpoints. These displays also show the wait time for the next checkpoint and the approximate walking time so that customers can decide whether or not to walk to another checkpoint in the terminal.
The technology used to gather the wait time data is called 3D Optical Sensors, implemented with Artificial Intelligence. Sensors are installed at each security checkpoint and the surrounding area to measure passenger wait time (queue time, ticket document checking, screening and re-composure). The sensors track the heat and movement of a person to measure how many people are in line, which direction they are moving and at what speed. This translates to approximate wait times. The data refreshes every minute.
The availability of this data for the customer is one piece in delivering the ultimate customer experience. The key is to deliver the right products or information at the right time, enabling more efficient travel through DFW Airport and enabling customers to make decisions based on their needs.
Real-time TSA security checkpoint wait time information will be available to customers on DFW’s app and website in the coming months to help travelers plan before arriving at DFW Airport for their trip.
