DFW AIRPORT, Texas (Nov. 7, 2022) – Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is proud to announce it has been selected as one of the 2022 Texan by Nature 20 (TxN 20) honorees. The annual ranking recognizes 20 companies across Texas that have made a demonstrative commitment to conservation and sustainability. This is the fourth consecutive year DFW Airport has received this honor.
Texan by Nature (TxN), a Texas-led conservation non-profit founded by former First Lady Laura Bush, announced this year’s winners at its 4th annual TxN by Nature Conservation Summit on November 2, 2022. DFW Airport was selected for its proven track record in forging new, beneficial paths in conservation and developing innovative, environmentally sustainable methods and processes within its business. Other criteria for selection included a reported return on conservation, a positive conservation impact on land, water, wildlife, people, waste and energy, and activities related to infrastructure and employee engagement.

DFW became the first carbon-neutral airport in North America in 2016 and remains the largest in the world. It’s also committed to reaching the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2030, twenty years ahead of the United Nations’ recommendations.
Additional DFW accomplishments in sustainability this past year include:
· DFW has reduced carbon emissions by more than 80 percent since 2010.
· By switching to 100 percent renewable wind electricity and incorporating other energy- efficient and conservation measures, DFW has saved more than 50 percent in energy costs.
· DFW has expanded its corporate objectives to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to include 6 new focus areas: Climate Action, Energy Performance, Water and Biodiversity, Circular Economy, Equity and Health and Wellness.
· DFW has implemented an organic waste recycling program that collects food waste from terminal concessions for repurposing as compost at north Texas farms, diverting more than 9 tons of food from area landfills during its first six months of operation in the fiscal year 2021.
· DFW is recycling used cooking oil from terminal concessions. More than 335 tons have been recycled to generate renewable fuels since the program started in 2019.
· DFW also increased the amount of construction waste recycled and diverted from nearby landfills to a rate of 96 percent.
