DFW Airport Joins World Economic Forum Initiative to Support Global Aviation Sustainability

News Image Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) announced today it is joining the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Airports Council International (ACI) in a new initiative to support the aviation industry’s move to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue is among more than 30 industry leaders who have joined The Airports of Tomorrow initiative, which was announced today during the ACI Europe / ACI World Annual General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain.

"Airports serve as powerful cornerstones of the aviation ecosystem where we can unite, collaborate and facilitate the industry's sustainability transformation," said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “By making the right planning and investment decisions today, we have the unique opportunity to shape a sustainable future for aviation and set examples for other public and private sectors. Through initiatives like the Airports of Tomorrow, we are dedicated to harnessing these opportunities, unlocking our full potential as clean energy hubs, and setting the standard for the net-zero economy.”

DFW already is a leader in sustainability, with plans to become net-zero carbon by 2030 – 20 years ahead of the global industry goal. DFW will use its experience and knowledge in this area to help support Airports of Tomorrow, which supports airports as they make changes to their operations and infrastructure that will enable net-zero aviation. The initiative will focus on infrastructure, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), innovative sustainable finance solutions for airports and creating startup challenges that invite new innovative firms to join the World Economic Forum community.

As North America’s first and the world’s largest carbon-neutral airport, DFW will share best practices, discover new findings, and take an active role in this global sustainability initiative.
