DFW Airport Expects to Welcome More Than 3.6 Million Passengers During Christmas Travel Period

News Image (DFW AIRPORT, Texas – Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019) — More than 3.6 million passengers are expected to travel to, from and through Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport during the traditional Christmas holiday period this year.

Between Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 and Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, DFW Airport will welcome an average of more than 203,000 passengers per day, with the busiest days on Thursday, Dec. 19 and Friday, Dec. 20, when more than 430,000 passengers are expected to travel through the Airport. The projected total of 3,657,236 passengers is a 4.1 percent increase over the total seen in 2018.

While it will be one of the busiest periods for travel of the year, the Airport offers plenty of fun, holiday-themed things to do, as well as useful tools and services to help make trips go smoothly, whether passengers are departing, arriving or connecting.

Let Us Entertain You — or Entertain Yourself!

The Holiday Look: Every DFW terminal is adorned with festive decorations, highlighted by the Airport’s signature 37-foot tall tree with holographic display near D30.

Say Cheese!: Through the New Year, customers should be on the lookout for holiday surprises that include selfie stations located in terminal areas. Find those photo ops online at dfwairport.com/topphotospots/.

Virtual Fun: Be a part of the holiday scene — virtually, at least — at virtual reality and augmented reality displays. The augmented reality display at Gate 21 in Terminal D features a snow globe winter wonderland. At Gate 9 in Terminal B, during select periods, a virtual reality game featuring a snowball fight with the Grinch also will be available. Look for it Sunday Dec. 22 beginning at 4 p.m., Monday Dec. 23 beginning at 9 a.m., Monday Dec. 30 beginning at 2 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 3, 2020 beginning at 2 p.m.

A Taste of the Season: Coca-Cola will offer a free taste of products at the Coke Bubble entertainment zones, near Gate 13 in Terminal A and Gate 13 in Terminal E, from noon to 4 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 23. The two zones feature an array of amenities including charging stations, TVs and workspaces. Learn more about the “The Bubble” at dfwairport.com/thebubblebycoke/.

Grab a Quick Bite the Easy Way

Available in all five terminals, GRAB allows customers to order and pay for food in advance through the DFW Mobile App. Once they arrive in the terminal, customers can skip the line and pick up their food. And, through Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, customers will get a free Coca-Cola product on their first order by using the promo code “COKE”.

Book Parking in Advance

Travelers looking for added convenience and savings of up to 50% can book parking at DFW Airport in advance at dfwairport.com/park or on the DFW Mobile App.

Use DFW App and Save

There are plenty of options for last-minute holiday purchases at shops throughout the terminals at DFW Airport and using the DFW mobile app can save shoppers money. Through Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, mobile app users will find information about a 10 percent discount on purchases at participating stores.

App Offers Helpful Tools

As an innovative and modern facility, DFW Airport provides tools to help passengers throughout their journey.

  • See near real-time information for clearing TSA security checkpoints on the DFW mobile app, allowing customers to determine if they would like to walk to another checkpoint.
  • For international travelers, Mobile Passport Control is a service available through DFW Airport’s mobile app. Create a profile, input trip information, and answer U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspection-related questions and proceed through the arrivals hall quickly.
