DFW Airport Celebrates Fifth Consecutive Year as a Texan by Nature 20 (TxN 20) Honoree

News Image Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has been selected as one of the 2023 Texan by Nature 20 (TxN 20) honorees. This marks the fifth consecutive year that DFW Airport has been recognized for its commitment to conservation and sustainability.

Founded by former First Lady Laura Bush, Texan by Nature is a Texas-led conservation nonprofit that champions innovative and transformative environmental stewardship. The announcement of this year's honorees was made during the 5th annual TxN by Nature Conservation Summit.

"Receiving this honor for the fifth consecutive year is a testament to the commitment of our entire DFW team to integrate sustainable practices into every aspect of our operation and our culture," DFW Chief Executive Officer Sean Donohue said. "Sustainability is a core pillar of our Strategic Plan, which aims to protect our natural resources and position the airport for long-term success through the benefits of sustainable business practices."

The 2023 TxN 20 selection involved a rigorous evaluation process, examining more than 2,000 Texas-based or operating companies across 12 industry sectors. Honorees were chosen based on their commitment to conservation, with key criteria including reported conservation metrics, positive environmental impacts and innovative practices in areas such as land, water, wildlife, energy, waste management and employee engagement.

DFW Airport has been a pioneer in environmental stewardship, becoming the first carbon-neutral airport in North America in 2016 and maintaining its status as the largest carbon-neutral airport in the world. DFW also is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030, significantly ahead of the United Nations’ recommendations for airports. This forward-thinking approach is a cornerstone of the airport's operational philosophy.
