Tracks of Time: Skylink at 20

Two Decades of Connecting DFW in Minutes

DFW AIRPORT, Texas (May 21, 2025)

When you’ve got a short layover, every minute counts. That’s where Skylink comes in – Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s (DFW) high-speed Automated People Mover (APM), which has been helping travelers catch their flights for nearly two decades and is marking a major anniversary this month.

Since its first ride on May 21, 2005, Skylink has become an essential part of the DFW experience. With 4.81 miles of elevated track on each loop, a train every few minutes, and stops inside security at all five terminals, it keeps travelers moving, fast and stress-free.

Skylink travels at up to 37 miles per hour – no need to recheck security, no crowds to navigate. Just a seamless ride from one terminal to the next. With an up time of over 99%, Skylink comes through when it matters most. And the numbers prove it: Over 65 million miles traveled since its first ride, Skylink has quietly become one of the hardest working systems.

Originally built to meet DFW’s growing passenger needs, Skylink replaced Airtrans – the airport’s original APM – and was designed to scale with DFW’s vision for the future. Its speed, reliability and convenience help power connections to more than 260 destinations across the globe, giving travelers the freedom to explore and go further.

Whether you're dashing to a gate or just enjoying the view, take a moment to appreciate the system that’s helped keep DFW moving for the past 20 years.
