Detours Begin This Week for First of Three 90-day Phases, All Travelers Encouraged to Arrive Early to Navigate Construction
DFW AIRPORT, Texas (Aug. 4, 2025)
Starting this week, various roadway detours are being implemented at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to support the completion of the bridge that will become the new entrance into Terminal B. This is the first of three 90-day phases for the airport’s International Parkway Project, which is transitioning access into Terminals A, B and C into new right-hand exits from International Parkway.
During this time, DFW recommends travelers add an additional 30-45 minutes to their typical travel plan to the airport to navigate detours and potential congestion. If unsure of when to arrive, customers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.
Following the work to complete Terminal B, two more phases are planned to complete the new bridges into Terminals A and C. The future phases are also expected to last 90 days each. A robust plan for detour signage will be in place to guide customers along the detours outlined and illustrated below.
Exiting Terminal A: All Traffic Detoured to North Exit
The first of several detours is officially underway, starting at Terminal A. For the duration of the 90-day phase, all customers exiting Terminal A will be directed to the North Exit to merge with northbound traffic on International Parkway. Customers seeking a southbound exit from the terminal area can take the left-hand U-turn before the North Exit Plaza to return southbound on International Parkway.
Southbound Service Road: Temporary Closure Scheduled for Bridge Demolition
Beginning the night of Wednesday, August 6, a portion of S. Service Road will be temporarily closed for approximately 52 hours. Scheduled to reopen in the early morning of Saturday, August 9, the closure will provide construction crews with the required area needed to safely demolish a portion of the existing flyover bridge into Terminal B.
This closure does not impact access to airport terminals from International Parkway as it is located on the adjacent Service Road outside of the terminal entry and exit plazas. All traffic arriving from the north will be redirected at Service Road Crossunder No. 2 to return northbound on N. Service Road to N. Airfield Drive.
Accessing Terminal B: All Traffic to Enter Via Southbound Entrance
Beginning August 6, Terminal B will only be accessible via the southbound entrance into the terminal from International Parkway.
- Arriving from the south to Terminal B: Customers arriving from the south, headed northbound through the airport, will be required to travel northbound past all terminal entrances and take the left-hand U-turn exit before the North Exit Plaza to return to southbound International Parkway. Then, customers will take the existing left-hand exit to Terminal B and keep left for temporary access into the terminal. Detour signage will be in place to guide traffic.
- Arriving from the north to Terminal B: Customers arriving from the north will continue to take the existing left-hand exit to Terminal B; however, traffic will then keep left for a slightly different path into the terminal.
Digital Tools Available to Assist Travelers

Project Plan Backed by Strategic Design, Phasing and Collaboration
The decision to transition to right-hand access into Terminals A, B and C was centered around DFW’s customers – both during construction and in its final condition. Ultimately, the new entries will provide a more intuitive traffic flow and enhanced driving experience with better wayfinding and access to the terminals. The engineering solution selected has resulted in a significant reduction in construction impacts. In fact, the upcoming closures and detours are needed for only a fraction of the time that would be needed if the airport were to replace the existing 50-year-old bridges built over International Parkway.
All three new bridges have been worked on during the past year with minimal impact to customers and the airport’s 24/7 operation due to the project’s strategic design and tactical phasing of overnight construction. The upcoming closures were planned to align with the typical dip in passenger traffic following the peak summer travel season.
