DFW Airport, Texas (April 18, 2025)
Recognizing the importance of nurturing the next generation’s interest in sustainability, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) actively engages with local schools to celebrate Earth Month.
In April, DFW’s experts visit elementary, middle and high school campuses across the metroplex, offering educators and their students a comprehensive look into the airport's innovative practices and initiatives.
Leading this charge is DFW’s Environmental Affairs Department (EAD), a dedicated team of more than 40 employees who contribute their expertise to fostering a healthy and resilient airport ecosystem.
In addition to these school visits, 200 educational kits are distributed in April for students. They include activities such as testing soil permeability, constructing solar powered cars, creating weather stations and designing wind turbines. These lesson plans are available to the public on DFW’s Earth Day website.
Advancing environmental sustainability is a continuous journey. Year-round, DFW is committed to integrating environmental standards into its operations with initiatives like the alternative energy fleet – electric and hybrid vehicles that reduce the airport’s carbon footprint, and the creation of the new Electric Utility Plant (eCUP) that will create further operational resiliency for the airport by using primarily renewable electricity to heat and cool airport facilities. Growing responsibly is a business imperative, and the implementation of sustainability practices like these demonstrates DFW’s commitment to the community and the environment.
