Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of DFW Airport Police Sgt. Charles “Alan” Works, who died Tuesday following an on-duty medical emergency while serving the airport community.
Sgt. Works began his law enforcement career in 2007 with the Denton County Sheriff’s Office as a detention officer. He later served as a police officer with the Tarrant County College Police Department from 2013 to 2022. Sgt. Works joined the DFW Airport Police Department in April 2020 and was promoted to sergeant in August 2022.
During his tenure at DFW, Sgt. Works earned the respect of colleagues and those he led through his professionalism, steady leadership and commitment to service. He received a Certificate of Merit in 2023 for exemplary service and served as a field training officer and a member of the Police Honor Guard. Sgt. Works was a certified TCOLE instructor, Certified Mental Health Peace Officer and Master Peace Officer.
“Sergeant Works was a committed public servant and a trusted leader within our department,” said DFW Airport Police Chief Brian Redburn. “He served with integrity and humility and cared deeply about the people around him. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fellow officers as we grieve his loss.”
Colleagues remember Sgt. Works for his calm presence, welcoming demeanor and the cowboy hat he was known for, qualities that reflected the connections he built throughout the department and the broader DFW Airport community. Throughout his career, Sgt. Works received multiple letters of appreciation recognizing his compassion toward victims, fairness in enforcement and dedication to the community he served.
“Sergeant Works was a leader his colleagues trusted and depended on,” said Jon “JT” Taylor, DFW Airport's Director of Public Safety. “Our department is mourning the loss of a respected sergeant, colleague and friend. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
Sgt. Works’ passing is deeply felt by his family, friends, the DFW Airport community and law enforcement agencies across the region. He is survived by his immediate and extended family.
