Spirit Airlines this week added to its growing operation at DFW Airport by launching new service to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Minneapolis/Saint Paul (MSP) International Airport. Minneapolis/Saint Paul service started yesterday and Philadelphia flights began today. The two new destinations give Spirit a total of 21 nonstop destinations from its expanding base at DFW Airport, with plans for five more destinations later this year.
“The addition of two new destinations from Spirit Airlines represents outstanding news for DFW Airport and our passengers,” said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW Airport. “Adding Spirit service to Minneapolis/Saint Paul and Philadelphia ultimately means more choices for travelers. We want to thank Spirit Airlines for their continuing investment in the Dallas/Fort Worth community, and we applaud Spirit’s ongoing expansion of operations here at DFW.”
“Customers from throughout the Metroplex and beyond are continuing to respond favorably to our ultra low fares and we’re thrilled to give customers the opportunity to save money on travel to even more popular major metropolitan destinations like Philadelphia and Minneapolis/Saint Paul from DFW,” said Spirit’s Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle. “Our ultra low fares and optional add-ons provide a total price that’s tough to beat.”
Spirit will add new service from DFW to Los Angeles, Oakland/San Francisco and Cancun, Mexico later this month. In June, the carrier will launch new nonstop service from DFW to the Latrobe/Pittsburgh area and Los Cabos, Mexico.
Spirit launched its operations at DFW in May of 2011 with service to two cities, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas, and has rapidly expanded its operation at DFW since then.
With the new flights from Spirit, DFW Airport continues its string of developing new air service for the citizens of Dallas/Fort Worth. In just over the past two years, DFW has seen an unprecedented expansion of service with the addition of seven new passenger airlines, thirteen new international destinations and thirteen new domestic destinations.
