DFW International Airport Board Approves New Concessions Outlets For Terminal A
Concessions program updates coincide with Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program (TRIP) plans for customer enhancements
(DFW AIRPORT, TX – May 5, 2011) – The DFW International Airport Board of Directors today approved 23 concessions packages totaling 31 locations for the new concessions program for Terminal A. The Terminal A concessions program is being upgraded in conjunction with the $1.9 billion Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program (TRIP), which started with construction in Terminal A earlier this year.
“We are excited about the new concepts that our concessions program will be bringing to DFW passengers,” said Francisco Hernandez, chairman of the DFW Board. “Our mission is to provide Airport guests with a world-class level of customer service and to give our passengers more of what they want through the concessions program, and we feel we have met that objective.”
Among the local, national and international brands that are new to DFW are Qdoba Mexican Grill, The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que, Pinkberry, Twisted Root Burger Co., Ling & Louie’s, California Pizza Kitchen, Cowboys Stadium Legends Club, Teavana, Juicy Couture, Gepetto’s toy store, Talie and 7-Eleven.
Today’s Board approval culminated a 16-month review and selection process that included extensive customer and market research, comprehensive outreach and education efforts for prospective concessionaires and a highly collaborative request for proposals (RFP) and evaluation process.
“Our staff did a tremendous job in researching concessions concepts and putting forth a fair solicitation process, and we were very pleased with the incredible response we got from prospective concessionaires,” said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. “Because we had such a competitive process, we are confident that DFW passengers will really enjoy the new Terminal A concessions locations when they open for business.”
Terminal A construction started in February and is scheduled for completion in 2014.
The Airport received a total of 101 proposals for 33 available packages. The Terminal A concessions program still has 10 remaining concessions packages outstanding, and the process to determine those outlets will start later this month.
Plans for the revamped Terminal A include the allocation of 50% more space for concessions after the TRIP renovations are complete, addressing projections for passenger counts in 2020 and beyond.
In the coming years, similar RFP processes will be held for the concessions outlets in DFW’s three other original terminals that are slated for renovation, namely Terminals B, C and E. The entire TRIP project and its corresponding concessions program updates will be completed in 2017.
