Spirit Airlines Launches Service from DFW International Airport To New Orleans
Spirit now serving 19 nonstop destinations from DFW; seven more to come in 2013 as DFW air service growth continues
Spirit Airlines yesterday began operating nonstop ultra low fare service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). The launch of service to New Orleans means that Spirit now serves a total of 19 nonstop destinations from its rapidly expanding base at DFW Airport, with expansion plans for seven more new destinations later this year.
“We are committed to saving our customers money on travel by offering them the lowest fares,” says Spirit’s Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle. “We’re excited to offer travelers our popular ultra low fares to New Orleans just in time for many of 2013’s premier events and festivals. And now travelers from New Orleans have easy access to the same super low fares that our growing customer following has come to know and love.”
Spirit has previously announced it will add service from DFW to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Philadelphia, Oakland/San Francisco, Los Angeles and Cancun, Mexico starting in April. In June, the carrier will launch new nonstop service from DFW to the Latrobe/Pittsburgh area and Los Cabos, Mexico.
“It’s exciting to see Spirit Airlines continue expanding its offerings at DFW and we appreciate Spirit’s growing commitment to the Dallas/Fort Worth market,” said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW International Airport. “Spirit is tapping into a new segment of travelers with its low fares, and with 26 destinations planned by this summer, there are plenty of flight options for DFW travelers to consider for their next trip.”
Spirit launched its operations at DFW in May of 2011 with service to two cities, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas.
The added flight from Spirit extends DFW Airport’s ongoing momentum in developing new air service for the citizens of Dallas/Fort Worth. In just over the past two years, DFW has seen an unprecedented expansion of service with the addition of six new passenger airlines, thirteen new international destinations and thirteen new domestic destinations.
