The DFW Department of Public Safety places the highest level of significance on the health of team members, and recognizes that personnel may be exposed to traumatic events in the course of duty. To help team members cope with these unsettling experiences, the Department participates in two programs:
- DPS Peer Support - After a traumatic event, team members are encouraged to participate in the DPS Peer Support Program. This program pairs the affected team member with other members who have experienced the same trauma. Participants are encouraged to talk about their experiences, and peer support members offer support and advice.
- Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) - This cooperative effort with regional public safety departments provides a network to provide team members with support. Participants are paired with local personnel, allowing team members to discuss issues with those from outside their own department. This provides a confidential support network different from those team members they work with on a day-to-day basis.
