DFW Airport vies for new route opportunities at Network 2001; Potential boost to North Texas economies

DALLAS/FORT WORTH airport, TEXAS (March 2, 2001) - In a one-and-a-half-day, high-level conference to analyze route planning opportunities, executives from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport will lobby to major and low-fare airlines to bring new air service to the Airport’s existing route network, ultimately boosting the $11.2 billion impact the Airport already contributes to the local economy. Network 2001 is a route planning event targeted for airports and airlines serving the North and South American and Transpacific markets and is slated from 8:45 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, March 5 and from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 6 at the Wyndham Anatole in Dallas.

“By adding to our route network, local economies will receive a boost from the impact of additional flights,” said Jeff Fegan, CEO DFW International Airport. “Just one of the single new international routes we’re pursuing could add more than $170 million per year to the economies of North Texas.”

For every $20 generated by the overall economy of the Metroplex, almost 90¢ can be traced to DFW Airport. Moreover, businesses in the Dallas/Fort Worth area employ nearly 211,000 men and women because of jobs created directly or indirectly by DFW Airport. Passenger-related activities account for the biggest share of the jobs, totaling 165,300 jobs that generate almost $4.7 billion in personal income. These jobs range over a wide variety of industries and trades, including hospitality, financial services, sales and distribution, construction, and communications.

Network 2001 is organized by Airline Business and is a sister event to the highly successful ROUTES pioneered by Airline Business and Airport Strategy and Marketing.

Airlines represented include Aerolitoral, Aeromexico, Air France, AirTran Airways, American Airlines, Lufthansa, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Grupo Taca, Iberia Airlines, JetBlue Airways, KLM, LOT Polish Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Southwest Airlines and SwissAir.
