DFW Welcomes New Carrier And New Service To Mexico
Flights to Top Mexican Destinations on the Rise
DFW is rapidly expanding its number of international daily flights and destinations with multiple new flights into Mexico. DFW’s newest air carrier, Mexicana, will begin service to six Mexican destinations this summer. Adding to the growth in flights is American Eagle, which began new service to Mexico on May 1. With the addition of all of these flights, DFW will have nonstop service to 17 Mexican destinations by this July.

Mexicana will begin weekly charter departures to Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta and San Jose Del Cabo (Los Cabos) on May 26. These flights to popular tourist destinations come at just the right time for North Texans making summer travel plans. Weekly departures to Morelia and Zacatecas will begin in July. Both of these city centers are excellent examples of the 17th and 18th century Spanish colonial style. So by the first week of July, Mexicana will have approximately 28 weekly departures to these six Mexican destinations, all on A319 aircraft. Mexicana is headquartered in Mexico City and has been in business for more than 80 years.

American Eagle recently extended its route network to include daily nonstop service between DFW and Chihuahua, a city that was previously not served from DFW. The service began May 1, with flights leaving DFW every day at 6:56 p.m. Returning flights arrive at DFW at 10:30 a.m. Known as the “Lady of the Desert,” Chihuahua is the capital of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico’s largest and richest state. Chihuahua becomes the 14th Mexican market for American/American Eagle, whose number of departures to Mexico has grown 17 percent in a year-over-year comparison.

The Mexicana flights will all leave from Terminal B and the American Eagle service to Chihuahua will leave from Terminal A. Once International Terminal D opens later this summer, all of these flights will depart from and arrive at this new terminal. Click here to learn more about International Terminal D.

DFW Airport continually works to attract new carriers as well as new service by existing carriers. The addition of flights to these seven Mexican destinations will certainly help to boost DFW’s international passenger numbers, which increased by more than 11 percent in the first quarter of 2005 compared to the first quarter of 2004.
