Singapore Airlines Cargo Began Fourth Weekly DFW Flight in March |
|
 |
Singapore Airlines Cargo, one of the world’s top international cargo carriers, added a fourth weekly flight to DFW in March. Singapore Airlines Cargo’s freighters already made three stops a week at DFW, and the addition of the fourth flight marks a continuing upward trend in freight shipments between North Texas and major international industrial and economic centers.
The additional Singapore Airlines Cargo service is another clear indication that DFW’s international cargo business is growing at a robust pace. Cargo volume between DFW and Asia rose nearly 42 percent from 2003 to 2004, continuing a pace of significant cargo growth seen every year since 1993. International cargo increased nearly 28 percent, reaching nearly 245,000 metric tonnes, and foreign flag cargo increased nearly 36 percent. Singapore Airlines Cargo also is seeing a significant growth trend at DFW, as its cargo volume rose by nearly 36 percent from 2003 to 2004.
Singapore Airlines Cargo announced its original flight into DFW before the September 11, 2001 attacks. The airline maintained its commitment and began service in October 2001 with two around-the-world frequencies. The third flight began in June 2002. The fourth flight’s route starts in Singapore, and goes to Macau before flying into DFW; from there, the flight goes to Brussels, then Dubai and back to Singapore, virtually following the pattern of commerce around the world. The airline’s continued service signifies its confidence with the DFW marketplace.
Singapore Airlines Cargo’s expansion gives DFW International Airport a total of 31 cargo freighter flights every week from Asia. Other carriers already flying freighters from Asian destinations to North Texas are Korean Air Cargo, China Airlines Cargo, China Cargo and EVA Airways. The majority of DFW’s cargo exports consist largely of technology-driven consumer goods. Imports into DFW include industrial goods, high-technology equipment and consumer electronics.
