DFW's Only Asian Passenger Carrier Flies Three Times per Week to Seoul, South Korea and FLIES NINE CARGO FLIGHTS PER WEEK |

Korean Air and DFW Airport are celebrating a decade-long relationship that touts growth and enhancement. Korean Air entered the DFW market in 1994 with its original route from Seoul making stops in Los Angeles before and after flying to DFW. The airline began flying direct to DFW in 2000, with a stopover in Atlanta prior to returning to Seoul via DFW. In May 2002, Korean Air enhanced its service to a nonstop flight between DFW and Seoul, reducing the travel time on this flight.
DFW's passenger traffic on Korean Air is up 27 percent versus last year. It is the only Asian passenger airline to fly out of DFW, and currently has three passenger flights per week to Seoul on B777 aircraft. The flights depart every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Departing flights leave out of DFW's Terminal B at 12:35 p.m. and arrive in Seoul at 5 p.m. the following day. Returning flights depart Seoul at 11:30 a.m. and arrive at DFW at 10:30 a.m. the same day.
Korean Air is a founding member of SkyTeam, the alliance that includes Delta Air Lines, Air France, AeroMexico, Czech Airlines and Alitalia. Both Delta and AeroMexico also serve DFW, with more than 260 flights per day to more than 70 destinations. The alliance allows Korean Air customers to take advantage of SkyTeam hubs and benefits on more than 7,800 daily flights to 500 destinations in 110 countries.
Korean Air is having a tremendous year and DFW looks forward to continuing its relationship with the airline for many years.
The airline also flies nine cargo flights per week on B747 aircraft. It operates one of the world's largest freighter fleets and for the past decade has been ranked one of the world's top cargo carriers. Last year Air Transport World named Korean Air its 2003 Cargo Airline of the Year. Korean Air is the only commercial airline in the world with a passenger, cargo and aerospace division.
Mr. Kyunghak Pi, DFW's Cargo Station Manager for Korean Air, has commented on the airline's growth at DFW:
This year was the 10 year anniversary of Korean Air operating at DFW Int'l Airport. At this time KE operates nine B747 freighter services and three B777 passenger flight services per week. Beginning in September KE increased the frequency to ten B747 freighters per week based on increased import demand.
Since KE has started operating into DFW, our inbound traffic has grown dramatically not only by frequency but total volume of cargo. As a result of the extra tonnage we import into DFW it has become increasingly difficult to overcome shortage of warehouse space just in the last few months.
Even though we have encountered unfavorable circumstances such as fuel cost increase and high competition in this market, I cautiously predict the coming year in 2005 will also be prosperous due to the increasingly strong, growing market in Asia. Our export situation goes through peak and valley but our import demand is consistently high and we find no evidence of that slowing down at any time in the near future. In order to meet the market demand, Korean Air will consistently expand its fleet next year adding 2 more B747ERF aircraft to our current fleet of 22 aircrafts (15 B747-400F, 3 747F, 4 MD11F). The simplification and modernization of our fleet will be greatly helpful in supporting our operational efficiency in the air cargo business.
Korean Air has greatly enjoyed our relationship with DFW Intl Airport and look forward to continuous growth. Hopefully the next ten years will bring upon us big expansion and great economic prosperity.
