Skylink Coming Spring 2005
World's Largest Airport Train Is Now Being Tested

Visitors to DFW Airport can now catch a glimpse of the future of DFW! Skylink, DFW's high-speed train that will open in spring 2005, is currently in its testing phase, circling around the Airport on train tracks that are an average of 50 feet above the ground. DFW guests can see the flashy blue and white train cars moving around these tracks from now until Skylink opens this spring, signaling a new era of speed and convenience that guests will experience when connecting between terminals!

Once open, Skylink will provide DFW Airport guests with fast and convenient connections between all terminals - existing Terminals A, B, C and E and DFW’s future International Terminal D. The bi-directional system will keep a guest’s average ride time to five minutes, with a maximum ride time of nine minutes between the farthest distances. In addition, passengers will wait an average of only two minutes for the trains to arrive in the spacious stations that were constructed just for Skylink. Since nearly 65 percent of DFW’s customers are connecting passengers, the speed, safety and convenience of the Skylink train will send DFW Airport to the forefront of convenient passenger transportation. When completed, DFW’s Skylink will be the largest airport high-speed train of its kind. Click here to see a virtual reality movie of the future Skylink high-speed train (must have Windows Media Player installed to view; visit http://www.dfwairport.com/support/ to download the software).

Until Skylink opens, DFW Airport passengers can continue using the existing transportation systems to connect to other terminals, including DFW’s Terminal Link van service and the American Airlines’ TrAAin. Click here for details on how to connect at DFW.

The Airport is testing the operation of each train, including doors and sound systems. This is a very important phase in preparation of opening Skylink to DFW guests this spring.

Skylink is a key component of the Airport’s $2.7 billion Capital Development Program (CDP), which also includes the new International Terminal D, Grand Hyatt Hotel, and airfield and roadway improvements. Completion of the CDP next year will ensure that DFW Airport remains the economic generator for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. DFW also will remain one of the busiest in the world while becoming even more competitive with other national and international airports.
