| At DFW, connecting passengers
on American Airlines will notice they have a little more time
to grab a cup of coffee or read a newspaper between flights,
thanks to a new streamlined flight schedule.
Traditionally, flights take off and land at the same times
throughout the day, with peak hours in the morning and late
afternoon. With this type of scheduling, arrival and departure
times were close together, which caused connection times to
be fairly short. The downside to the traveler was that any
flight delay resulted in a rush to meet a connecting flight.
With the new schedule, arrivals and departures are on a more
continuous schedule, with flights spread out more evenly throughout
the day. Connection times have increased by an average of
13 minutes. This means travelers will have better options
on finding a connecting flight that meets their schedule.
As a result of American Airlines “de-peaking”
strategy, the airline requires fewer gates and is able to
consolidate its operations into Terminals A and C. In addition,
American Eagle, American’s regional carrier, will move
its regional jet operations from its satellite terminal to
Terminal B beginning February 1, 2003.
With flight schedules spread throughout the day, concession
lines are sure to be shorter. Guests to DFW will have a little
extra time to stop by one of DFW’s many gift shops or
restaurants. Visit our Shops and
Restaurants guide for more details.
