DFW’s future Automated People Mover System (APM) was
designed with our passengers in mind in order to make travel
between Airport terminals more convenient. The APM name was
also chosen by DFW guests in order to maximize customer service
and travel convenience for our passengers!
DFW conducted extensive market research to test proposed
names and receive customer feedback in order for the chosen
APM name to be meaningful to our guests. The Airport is proud
to announce that “SkyLink” was chosen as the name
for the APM. “SkyLink” was found to best convey
that the new APM would take passengers between terminals to
their gate, be located and boarded above the terminal areas,
and was the most appealing to the system’s most valuable
constituent – our guests.
When opened in 2005, “SkyLink” will completely
revolutionize travel around DFW and provide passengers with
faster service and quicker connecting options as they navigate
through the Airport’s terminals. Twelve stations, two
in each terminal, will make the wait for a train just two
minutes. The 64-car system will travel at speeds reaching
35 miles per hour with the capability of transporting 5,000
passengers per hour in each direction on the first day it
is open. Average ride times will be approximately five minutes,
making inter-terminal connections quick and efficient for
our guests.
Beginning in 2005, DFW’s APM will enhance inter-terminal
connections for our passengers. DFW is proud that our guests
played a key role in designing the services of the system
and, now, the name! Click here

system.
