Before you pack your bags for your holiday
trip through DFW Airport, be sure to check out these tips
to help reduce your delays and make your travel easier.
- Pack light. Both checked and carry-on luggage are
subject to random searches by the airlines, so please
be prepared to have your bags looked at more thoroughly.
The less in the bag, the shorter the potential delays.
In addition, pack items in clear plastic bags or see-through
containers to increase the speed of a random search.
- Pack all holiday gifts and presents unwrapped. If
your bags are searched, you may be asked to unwrap
your gifts.
- Limit carry-on items. The FAA limits each traveler
to one carry-on bag and one personal bag (i.e., purse
or briefcase).
- Lessen the number of electronic items in your bags.
All electronic items, such as laptops and cellular
phones, are subject to additional screening. Be prepared
to remove your laptop from its travel case so that
both can be X-rayed separately. You may want to label
your laptop to avoid mix-ups when several laptops
that look alike move through X-ray machines in succession.
- Please do not carry sharp or pointed items of any
kind beyond the security checkpoints, either on person
or in carry-on bags. The FAA updates its aircraft
banned items list on its web site. Please visit http://cas.faa.gov/faq.html
or contact your airline for the latest information.
The best advice is to err on the side of caution and
leave all questionable items at home or pack in checked
baggage.
- Double-check your bags before you leave. Be sure
to go through your hand luggage one last time before
departing to the Airport to double-check for potential
problem items. DFW Airport offers disposal containers
at each of its security checkpoints in order to self-declare
and dispose of FAA-banned items before passing through
security screening.
- Label your bags with tags or special markings. This
may aid in the identification of your luggage at the
baggage claim area once you arrive at your destination.
- Do not leave bags unattended, and report unattended
items to the nearest airport or airline personnel.
- Check with your airline in advance if you have any
questions. Your airline will be able to provide specific
security and baggage requirements.
