| Having earned its title
as the regions economic engine during the past 27 years,
DFW Airport continues to fuel the local economy, despite the
current economic slowdown.
The Airport is in the initial stages of a five-year, $2.6
billion Capital Development Program (CDP) that encompasses
projects such as a world-class consolidated International
Terminal, a new state-of-the-art Automated People Mover system,
an eighth runway, and other airfield improvements.
The Airport is spending $1 million a day for the next 5 years
on CDP projects, making a great impact on the local economy.
The investment will generate an additional $34 billion in
economic impact on the North Texas economy and add 77,000
new jobs over the next 15 years. DFW is moving forward to
ensure that it remains an economic generator for the Dallas-Fort
Worth Metroplex.
These improvements are translating into immediate employment
opportunities. With over 5,600 construction crewmembers employed
at one point in time, there is no doubt that the CDP has a
direct impact on the employment market, particularly in the
construction industry. It is estimated that more than 23 million
man-hours will be necessary to complete construction of the
CDP. Once the new International Terminal is in operation,
it is expected to provide an additional 3,680 job opportunities.
Currently, DFW Airport has 1,844 employees - a remarkable
18.5% increase since 1998. When asked, DFWs employees
indicated the following reasons why they choose to work for
DFW:
- Stability
- Work/life balance
- Culture change
- Limited travel
- Excellent health insurance benefits
In its pursuit to fuel the North Texas economy, DFW Airport
continues to create employment opportunities for the region,
providing qualified and dedicated people a great place to work.
