| DFW is pleased to welcome
daily nonstop service to two new destinations in Mexico by American
Eagle: Aguascalientes and Saltillo. The new service increases
DFW's international and regional jet markets and provides for
additional options for the DFW passenger.
The addition of American Eagle's service represents a growth
in international markets for DFW Airport. Aguascalientes and
Saltillo are American Eagle's first international markets
offered from DFW, showing the continued growth of air service
from DFW to new international markets. DFW now offers nonstop
service to 31 international destinations, including 12 cities
in Mexico, increasing the international travel options for
DFW passengers.
The new service also signifies the remarkable growth in regional
jet service at DFW over the past few years. The Aguascalientes
and Saltillo service are both operated by American Eagle's
Embraer's ERJ-135 aircraft. These jets fly faster, quieter
and farther than turboprop aircraft, which are typically used
in short-distance flights. Regional jets provide service to
small- and medium-sized destinations that were thought uneconomical
for nonstop air service, providing a greater variety of options
for DFW travelers.
Due to such a tremendous increase in service by airlines
such as American Eagle, DFW currently offers nonstop regional
jet service to 36 destinations. DFW continues to increase
the number of markets served by regional jets, including the
following recent additions:
- Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina
- Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Fort Wayne, Indiana
- Savannah, Georgia
- Columbia, South Carolina
- Madison, Wisconsin
- Charleston, South Carolina
Saltillo and Aguascalientes are great vacation destinations
for DFW travelers. Be sure to check out the attractions the
two cities offer before you plan your vacation travel.
Saltillo
Saltillo, so-named after a small waterfall that formed a water
spring in the middle of the desert some time ago, is a city
where architecture, tradition, handicraft and culture blend
with industrial development, science and art. Set high in
the arid Sierra Madre Oriental, Saltillo was founded in 1577
and offers one of the most spectacular landscapes on Mexican
soil. It has a quiet central area with a small-town feel and
is full of pink quarry-stone buildings, making it a culturally
rich and relaxing destination.
Among the interesting attractions in this city are the tours
of the Plaza de Armas and the Zaragoza Alameda (Alameda =
Poplar Cove), as well as visits to the Cathedral of Santiago
and, the Government Palace. Be sure to visit the collections
at museums such as the Juarez Building, the Mexican Bird Museum,
the Cultural Institute of Coahuila and the Desert Museum.
Aguascalientes
Aguascalientes is a colonial town named for the thermal springs
found in the area and dates its roots to the early days of
Spanish influence. An agricultural and mining center since
its inception, Aguascalientes is developing into a major industrial
city in Mexico. Due to its location in the middle of the country,
Aguascalientes flourished as silver was mined in Zacatecas
and surrounding areas. Due to its proximity to Guadalajara
and the industrial area of León/ Guanajuato, Aguascalientes
also is an important railroad center.
Aguascalientes' colonial roots are evident in the Plaza de
San Marcos, the Cathedral and other period buildings throughout
the city. World famous painters such as Saturnino Herran were
born in Aguascalientes and their work is housed in local museums.
Aguascalientes is a modern city that boasts one of the largest
bullfighting rings in the country and the marvelous vineyards
of the surrounding countryside. It has also become a thriving
convention center with excellent facilities and deluxe hotels.
DFW is pleased to welcome American Eagle's regional jet launch
into Mexico and looks forward to future regional jet growth
from DFW to many more destinations. With so many travel choices,
DFW continues to offer more of what you want in quality air
service. |
