Many trainees are attending from out of town, and hotel and other arrangements may be needed. To help facilitate this, the DFW Airport Department of Public Safety has compiled the following information.
General Information (back to top)
Terminal to Terminal Service: This service is provided to departments scheduling 10 or more students per class per day and/or personnel arriving and departing on the same day of the training. The students and equipment are provided transportation from the terminal to the training center, lunch, and back to the terminal.
Flexible Schedule: Flexible scheduling is provided to departments sending 10 or more students per day, arriving and departing on the same day. Night fires may be scheduled based upon a department desire and needs.
Weather Considerations: In an effort to maximize the training process and accommodate schedules, weather conditions are considered. During the months of June, July, and August, the training may be scheduled in the evening.
Physical Requirements: The training requires students to function under extreme physical and emotionally challenging conditions. Students scheduled to attend the courses must be physically and mentally capable of the training challenges. Students with serious health problems (recent surgeries, heart problems) are discouraged from attending.
Student Registration and Class Sizes (back to top)
DFW strives to maximize the learning experience by controlling the class size for all courses. The minimum class size is 10 students, maximum class size is 20, and the optimum number of students per class is 16.
Dress Code (back to top)
Personnel attending classes may wear their respective duty uniform or appropriate civilian attire. Civilian attire may include casual wear and collared shirts. Shorts, sweat suits, or workout clothing is not considered appropriate attire for the classroom or to be worn under Personal Protective Clothing.
Cancellation or Reductions (back to top)
Cancellation or reductions of students attending a course must be accomplished 14 days prior to the date of the course. If notice is not provided to DFW by mail or fax regarding cancellation or reduction, the sponsoring agency will be responsible for the tuition of the original number of students registered for the course.
Agency Responsibilities (back to top)
DFW Airport's Department of Public Safety provides the training facility, instructor staff, fuel, handlines, nozzles, extinguishing agents, and breathing air. The student and the sponsoring agency are provided with an evaluation report of the students' participation and performance during the training period. To ensure the safety of the students, a field and safety briefing, which includes the inspection of protective clothing and the self-contained breathing apparatus, is conducted prior to actual fire training.
Sponsoring Agency and Student: The sponsoring agency or student must provide NFPA-approved protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.
The structural programs are facility-use programs. The departments using the facility must provide a sufficient number of instructors to satisfy NFPA-1403 Standard on live fire training evolutions. ALL firefighters participating in any of the Live Fire Training must have successfully completed the required subjects as outlined in NFPA-1403 Standards for Live Fire Training prior to participating in the Live Fire Training.
Equipment Lease: Self-contained breathing apparatus and proximity clothing are available on a per-course lease.
- Self-contained breathing apparatus: $50.00 per unit
- Proximity ensemble: $50.00 per set
