Police Firearms Training
The DFW Airport Department of Public Safety offers training services and facilities to law enforcement agencies seeking firearms training. Training is conducted in the Richard D. Barreda Firing Range, a state-of-the-art training facility named in honor of Corporal Barreda, lost in the line of duty in February 1997.

Training programs cover a wide range of needs, and may be customized to specific needs or scenarios. Training programs include:
Firearms Training (back to top)
Basic Firearms Certification Course - This 40-hours course is designed to provide the law enforcement officer with basic firearms proficiency. Students will be taught firearm safety, daily inspection, cleaning, and care of their weapons. Students will be required to complete a qualification course by the end of the program.
Cost: $300 per student
Semi-Automatic Pistol Transition Course - This 24-hours course is offered for those officers currently using a service revolver and desire to transition to a semi-automatic pistol. Course areas include: firearm safety, weapon cleaning, inspection, maintenance, reloading, and clearing malfunctions. Students are required to complete a qualification course with a minimum of a 90 percent prior to completion of the class. Students must provide their own weapon.

Firearms Instructor Development (back to top)
This 40-hours course is designed for those instructor candidates intending to teach firearms for agencies using or expecting to use the semi-automatic pistol. Instructor candidates must complete a qualification course with both the handgun and shotgun with a minimum proficiency score of 90 percent. A student equipment/supply list will be provided upon registration or request.
Prerequisite: To attend this course a student must have successfully completed an approved classroom instructor course.
Cost: $300 per student
Range Facility Rental (back to top)
The firing range is available to law enforcement agencies on an hourly-use basis. Agencies which have their own shooting programs or courses of fire may use the firing range to conduct their personalized training
Cost: $125 per hour
