Once completed, a paper application will be provided to the applicant, or the applicant will be discontinued in the process and notified.
Step 2 – Written Exam
Return completed paper application package to Human Resources as the “ticket” for participation in the written exam.
Step 3- Physical Ability Test (PAT)
Upon successful completion of the written exam, applicants proceed immediately for the Physical Ability Test. to the DPS Training Center (Richard D. Barreda Indoor Range) behind Station 4.
Step 4 - Polygraph Examination
Applicants successfully completing the PAT must schedule the polygraph exam within two weeks. Failing to do so may result in the applicant’s being discontinued from the application process.
Step 5 - Background Investigation & Captain’s Review
Results of the polygraph exam are sent to Career Development Division (CDD), where the background investigation is initiated, or the applicant is discontinued in the process and notified.
Step 6 - Chief’s Review
Upon completion of the background investigation and Captain’s Review, the application package will be forwarded to the Chief for review or discontinuation in the process.
Step 7 – Oral Interview
