DFW Welcomes New Service by China Cargo
The North Texas Economy Will Greatly Benefit From this Direct Flight to Shanghai
DFW is pleased to announce that China Cargo Airlines has begun three times weekly MD-11 freighter service to Shanghai, giving shippers from North Texas and across the region unprecedented access to China. The new Shanghai service is the first to directly link DFW to China, and will also link China to Central and South America as the Airport continues to expand its cargo business around the globe.

The new service is a direct reflection of the surge in the Asian cargo business that DFW has experienced during the past two years. DFW’s Asian cargo business comprises almost 19 percent of the Airport’s total cargo. China Cargo’s entry into the U.S. market will provide DFW Airport with more than 25 cargo flights per week into Asia. It will also bring DFW’s Asian cargo airline count to five, connecting DFW to such Asia Pacific destinations as Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The flight will generate an estimated $13 million in economic impact for North Texas annually, and will also position DFW Airport as the leader in Asian cargo for the southern and eastern United States. Initiating service to China has been a strategic imperative for DFW Airport, which has worked extensively with officials in China to inaugurate the flight. As a result, North Texas now has direct access to one of the United States’ largest trading partners. DFW hopes passenger service will one day follow the cargo service.

China Cargo Airlines is based in Shanghai, the economic center of China and a significant hub for airfreight. It is the cargo arm of China Eastern Airline Group, and also operates the belly space of China Eastern Airlines' passenger flights. The airline will establish a new station at DFW’s International Air Cargo Centre. Key shipments will include apparel, high-tech equipment, toys and other consumer goods. China Cargo has a specialized ground services staff in charge of space allotment, space control and cargo transfer, all to ensure high-level service and customer satisfaction.

DFW Airport is excited about the economic impact that will result from this new service for North Texas, which is home to 18 Fortune 500 headquarters and houses the nation’s second-largest high-tech economy. These businesses, and countless others in the region and across the world, are sure to benefit from growth and opportunities related to this new service.
