In order to increase support and understanding
of the fast-growing and profitable North Texas
cargo business, DFW Airport and the Metroplex
air cargo community joined forces to reestablish
the dormant Dallas-Fort Worth Air Cargo Association.
DFW Airport's cargo business plays a vital role
in enhancing the prosperity of the North Texas
economy. DFW has 17 international cargo flights
per week, serving four countries and generating
some $25 million in economic impact annually.
Revenues from the international air cargo business
are derived from items such as fuel expenditures,
landing fees, crew expenses, ground transportation,
freight forwarding and warehousing services. These
direct and indirect expenditures benefit the entire
Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and are the cornerstone
of economic development for the region.
Open to all individuals, businesses and organizations
actively involved in the Metroplex's air cargo
industry, the Dallas-Fort Worth Air Cargo Association
brings together all elements of the area's air
logistics industry into a single, dynamic force
for progress and growth in the ever-expanding
arena of world trade and economic development.
The mission of the Association is to offer a
unique opportunity to exchange information and
ideas and influence the everyday growth of the
air cargo community in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The group believes that a strong association plays
a vital role in enhancing cooperation, understanding
and commerce among the DFW area cargo community.
The Association has defined its purpose as the
following:
- To present a unified voice for air cargo issues
in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
- To further the exchange of ideas and solutions
to common industry problems
- To improve industry relations and communication
between various constituents
- To provide for orderly, uniformed planning
for the future of the Dallas-Fort Worth area
air cargo industry
- To educate members of the air cargo industry
on issues that may impact them
The Association evolved from the DFW Airport Air
Cargo Committee, a group of Airport cargo professionals
from airlines, forwarders, brokers, shippers and
federal agencies that meet once a month to discuss
issues and promote the cargo business at DFW Airport.
The Air Cargo Committee discussed the need for
an Association and conducted a survey to establish
quantitatively the interest in organizing, forming
and participating in an organization representing
the area air cargo community. The survey came
back with very positive results, and the Dallas-Fort
Worth Air Cargo Association was formed!
The Association's first meeting was held on March
26, 2001 at the DFW Hyatt East Hotel. The guest
speaker was Mark Najarian, Vice President of Marketing
and Sales for American Airlines Cargo. Attendance
was well over 100 interested people from the local
cargo community.
The Association's current Board of Directors
includes:
Jim Morrisroe (Fed Ex) - President
Oscar Couto (American Airlines) - Vice President
Tad Matsuura (Nippon Cargo Airlines ) - Secretary
Frank Choi (Korean Air) - Treasurer
Meetings are planned for the last Monday of the
month at the DFW Hyatt East Tower. To become a
member or for additional information, please contact
Jim Morrisroe at 972 615 9907.
