I am a Volunteer Team Leader at the DFW USO Center in Terminal B. One morning when I left the center I ran into a family looking for the R&R Welcome Home. I went with them to show them where it was and explained to them what was going to happen. Then I decided to stay and I spent some time talking to the father about his son. It was the father, mother, younger brother and the soldier's wife and they had driven all night from Oklahoma to get here on time. As I carried on a conversation with the father I began to see his and the other family members nervousness. Then I learned why. This was to be a very special homecoming for this family, because only a few days earlier this son came under attack. The vehicle he was riding in was hit by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) only there was no explosion! The grenade was a dud and the only damage was it hit the gas tank and the truck ran out of gas. When the moment came and the young soldier came out, the family had one big group hug and I could see in the eyes of that father not just pride, but deep gratitude to have his son home and no longer traveling in harms way. As the soldier and his family walked passed where I was standing the father looked my way and as we made eye contact I knew all was well. What our men and women in uniform are doing to bring liberty to all is right, and know this, what we do to show our love and support will someday be rewarded.

An older lady and her husband were waiting to see their youngest son. They both had been in a car accident and recovered after 4 months of treatment. They were talking to me in joy knowing it was only going to be a few minutes to see their son, after almost 2 years. At the same time, there was a young lady standing near them, I did not think that she was with them. Suddenly the doors opened and the troops started to come out. The older couple started running toward a young man in uniform; it was their son. He was very happy to see them and asked in a much exited voice: where is my wife? His was wife was the younger woman standing near the older couple, she was carrying gorgeous young baby girl. It was a sight I will never forget: the young warrior held his daughter for the first time, he kissed her and hugged her.
